Guwahati, June 23: The United States has released a new travel advisory urging its citizens to exercise heightened caution while traveling in India, citing concerns related to crime and terrorism.

The advisory specifically highlights the Northeast region, recommending that US travelers reconsider their plans due to risks associated with terrorism and violence.

According to the advisory, ethnic insurgent groups in the Northeast have been known to engage in violent acts, including bombings targeting buses, trains, railways, and marketplaces. However, it notes that there have been no recent incidents reported in Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim, or Tripura. Additionally, US government personnel must secure prior approval before visiting Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as areas outside the capital cities of Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura.

Furthermore, the advisory strongly advises against travel to Manipur due to ongoing ethnic conflicts that have led to significant violence and displacement of communities.

Other regions mentioned in the advisory as having unrest include Jammu and Kashmir, the India-Pakistan border, and parts of central and eastern India. US government employees are required to obtain permission before traveling to various locations across India.
